By default the IBM Lotus Notes 8.0.x and 8.5.x client starts with an "Open" button. The bookmark bar (the bar of icons running down the left side) is nowhere to be seen. The instructions will show you how to show the bookmark button instead of the default "Open" button, and how to add a bookmark to the bar.

Toggling the Open button or the bookmark bar:
If the "Open" button is visible, switch to the bookmark bar, by right-clicking the Open button, and select "Dock the Open List".
- This puts a check mark by the "Dock the Open List" option. The Open button disappears and the bookmark bar is now running down the side.

If the bookmark bar is visible, switch to the Open button, by right-clicking an empty area (not over a button), and un-select "Dock the Open List" option.
- This removes the check mark by the "Dock the Open List" option. The bookmark bar disappears and the Open button is now back at the top left of the Notes client.

To add a bookmark to the bar:
1. Display / open the application or document. It will now be an active tab going across the upper part of the Notes client.
2. Left-click on the tab, and drag the tab to the bookmark bar between any existing icons where you want the new icon to be inserted.

Note: You can also add bookmarks into the folder icon on the bookmark bar. This lets you create a hierarchy of folders.
